Alyas Khan
Chairman and CEO
Alyas Khan is a creative thinker who inspires change to enable organisations, neighbourhoods, cities, regions and countries to think creatively and innovatively to boost their social, economic and cultural development. He is an authority on area based transformation and has enabled many clients to think creatively to make a real and sustained impact. His articles have been published in a range of journals and publications such as Global Built Environment Review and he has also undertaken research for the Academy for Sustainable Communities. His role as a regeneration specialist in a number of local authorities (for one he played lead role in winning Beacon Status) saw thousands of jobs created and over £90,000,000 public and private sector leverage being brought in. The programmes were subsequently cited by the NWDA as national good practice and his work was commended by the Commission on Integration and Cohesion, Regeneration and Renewal and New Start magazines as well as by the EQUAL Programme’s guide to best practice in the UK ‘Empowerment – a guide for Development Partnerships’. His experience also includes extensive master planning, for example, he played a key role in the Area Development Framework for Bacup and Stacksteads and the West Hull Area Development Framework and Master plan. He is currently authoring a number of books relating to country master planning, fundraising and sustainable strategic development.

Stephanie Prentis

Stephanie is a specialist in housing, community development and regeneration. She has experience in the design and delivery of a range of projects; all aimed at helping those who face challenge overcome them and achieve a good quality of life. Stephanie therefore has a thorough grounding in understanding what needs to happen to make projects work, how to secure user involvement and how to ensure sustainability for the future. Stephanie holds several years’ project management experience and lead on the successful achievement of ISO 9000 for quality assurance. Her work experience is diverse, and has included the social housing sector, regeneration and BME communities, skills and employment, health and social care, and the commercial industry. A key member of Emica Consulting, Erica Hadley-Jarret is a senior urban regeneration consultant, who has high-level experience in voluntary sector development. A graduate in Sociology and Cultural Studies, she achieved a first class honours for completing her research in voluntary sector evaluation. Erica is now playing a leading role within Emica Consulting providing cutting edge business planning, communication, coaching and mentoring solutions. Erica has worked on a wide range of research based community projects into current social issues such as homelessness, domestic violence, faith-based community development, poverty, gang culture and ethnic minorities. She has direct experience of working within a leading charity and has an in-depth understanding of the challenges organisations are presented with.

Luke Crimi

Luke Crimi has recently joined the Emica team. Luke is a researcher in sustainable social/economic development who specialises in quantitative and qualitative economic development research. Luke is currently supporting public and voluntary sector clients on multi-disciplinary economic development and regeneration projects. Luke will be playing a key role in appraisals and evaluations, fundraising, neighbourhood renewal, public service delivery, regional and local development in urban and rural areas. Luke is qualified to Masters level in Research Methodologies- Globalisation and Development. Luke will also be assisting with market feasibility studies, project appraisals and plans, programme evaluations and associated organisational reviews.

Melanie Thomson

Organisational Strategy and Growth
Based in our Wales office, Mel Thomas is a graduate in International History and International Relations Mel Thomas is an expert in research methodology, statistical compilation and analysis and information management as well as critical thinking and analytical skills. She also specialises in conflict resolution and is working with a number of organisations to help them develop their strategic capacities. Before attending University Mel was also a member of the local ATC (Air Training Corps) where she gained the rank of Sergeant and regularly represented the Corps in sporting and flying events. As one of Emica high flyers, Mel has excelled in voluntary and public sector development.

Najam Sabar

The youngest member of the team, Naj Sabar is one of the emerging stars of Emica Consulting. The youngest person in the country to become a Sage Certfied Professional, Naj is a key part of the Accountancy and Finance Division, headed by Matthew Ingham. He is also a strategic advisor for Emica’s company growth strategy. Known as the ‘Martin Bashir’ in Emica Consulting, Naj knows how to punch above his weight and has played a key role in negotiating new contracts for the firm through his excellent and tenacious communication skills.

Christopher Cripps
International Development Consultant
Grandson of the late Sir Stafford Cripps, Emica Consulting’s Christopher Cripps is an urban regeneration consultant, based in UK and Accra, who has extensive experience of Project Management of Land Developments. Christopher, originally trained as an Architect, went on to study for 6 years for his PhD thesis which examined the role of design in the political and economic context of city development. He worked subsequently on a wide variety of projects from the perspective of each of the principal actors in Development: for Local Authorities, for Private Developers and Investors, and for Local Communities. He worked until recently in the UK on ‘cutting edge’ master planning and urban regeneration projects for Local Authorities including the extension of Leeds City Centre (population 1m), managing the Master plan of a 20Ha area of Burnley Town Centre (Lancashire Town, Population 100,000), and managing the Master plan for Edlington, former mining town finished May 2005.

Thomas White
International Development Consultant
Emica Consulting’s Thomas White is a rural development specialist with a particular focus in conflict resolution and livelihood enhancement, currently based in Uganda. Thomas has an MSc in Global Development Management and has a background in Politics and has worked within a fundraising capacity, working in close collaboration with a multitude of institutional donors such as ECHO, UNHCR, UNDP, FAO and various Embassy’s. He has worked for NGOs in Sierra Leone, India, Uganda and Kenya and has experience in both humanitarian and developmental work, including infrastructure rehabilitation, road rehabilitation, food security projects, Disaster Risk Reduction, Famine Early Warning Systems, borehole rehabilitation and education based projects.
